The historic Waltair division, recognized as one of Indian Railways’ highest revenue-generating zones, has entered a transformative era following its administrative restructuring. Reorganised under the South Coast Railway zone, Visakhapatnam railway station is undergoing an extensive ₹800 crore redevelopment project to emerge as a state-of-the-art transit and commercial hub by May 2028.

The upgraded station infrastructure will feature 14 platforms, a 72-meter-wide foot overbridge housing a 60,000 sq. ft. commercial zone, and direct skywalk integration with the proposed metro network. To ensure advanced passenger safety and disaster resilience, the cyclone-proof complex is equipped with India’s first AI security robot ‘ASC Arjun’ for threat identification, solar power systems, and multi-lingual AI assistance.
