The glass skywalk at Visakhapatnam’s famous Kailasgiri Hilltop Park is adding a new dimension to the city’s tourism appeal. Extending out from the hillside into mid-air, this glass bridge offers tourists a unique vantage point to view the sea and the city from a remarkable height. Developed at a cost of approximately ₹7 crore, this glass skywalk was constructed under the tourism development initiative of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). It opened to tourists in December 2025 and has since become a major attraction for visitors to Kailasgiri. A 55-meter skywalk with a 35-meter section suspended in mid-air—the Kailasgiri glass bridge has a total length of about 55 meters. Its standout feature is its cantilevered section; approximately 35 meters of the bridge extends outward from the hill, suspended in the air. Walking along this section, tourists can see the hillside below and the expansive coastline stretching into the distance. As visitors move forward on the glass floor, the natural scenery visible beneath them heightens the thrill. On one side lies the vast expanse of the Bay of Bengal, while the other offers views of Visakhapatnam city and the surrounding hills. In clear weather, the view of the sea and the coastline becomes a truly special attraction.
The depth is visible beneath the glass
The most striking feature of the glass bridge is its transparent floor. Unlike conventional bridges, there is no solid surface beneath one’s feet here. The hillside slope and the surrounding natural landscape are clearly visible below. This is why taking the first step onto the glass skywalk evokes a mix of thrill and curiosity for many tourists. While some tread cautiously at first, others can be seen standing on the glass floor, capturing the view below with their cameras.
Designed with strong coastal winds in mind
Visakhapatnam is a coastal city; therefore, constructing any high, open structure here requires careful consideration of strong winds and coastal weather conditions. According to project details, the glass bridge is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to approximately 250 kilometers per hour. The structure utilizes robust steel framing and high-strength glass. Railings and supporting systems have been installed on both sides to ensure safety. To manage the flow of visitors, entry is restricted to a limited number of people at a time.
Kailasagiri already boasts numerous attractions
Kailasagiri has long been one of Visakhapatnam’s most popular tourist destinations. Situated at an elevation above sea level, the hill offers spectacular views of the city and the Bay of Bengal. Massive statues of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, a ropeway, and various viewpoints have long drawn tourists to the site. Additionally, adventure activities such as zip-lining and sky cycling have been developed. The addition of the glass skywalk has further strengthened Kailasagiri’s identity—moving beyond just a hilltop park to become a major hub for nature and adventure tourism.

The appeal of the glass bridge is not limited to daylight hours. In the evening, as the sun descends towards the horizon of the Bay of Bengal, the sunset view from Kailasagiri becomes a truly special experience for tourists.
